EVENTS

Art is not just something we show - it’s something we gather around.

Throughout the year, the Holland Area Arts Council hosts a range of events that connect artists, audiences, and communities through creative exchange.

From exhibition openings and artist talks to all-ages workshops, performances, film screenings, and seasonal celebrations, our events reflect the diversity and vitality of the Lakeshore arts community.

We believe in art that brings people together - across disciplines, generations, and backgrounds. Our calendar includes public programs for families, youth, and adults; multidisciplinary performances that merge music, movement, and visual art; and civic projects that take creativity into public space.

Whether you're coming to a gallery opening, joining a ceramics demo, or attending a community dialogue, HAAC events are designed to be welcoming, participatory, and rooted in the belief that art belongs to everyone.

Check back often—our events are always evolving in response to our artists, partners, and community.

Honore Lee Reception

Grand Haven artist Honore Lee presents a new body of work inspired by the dynamic landscape of Lake Michigan's dunes and shoreline. Through layered ink wash, colored pencil, wax, indigo-dyed papers, stitching, printmaking, and collage, Lee documents the natural forms shaped by wind and water, observed during her contemplative walks along the beach. This exhibition reflects Lee's ongoing exploration of connection – to place, memory, and the interplay between personal and universal experiences. A longtime educator and collaborator, Lee's art practice embodies a profound dialogue with the natural world and the process of discovery.

Balladeer - Anna Vinten-Johansen Reception

Anna Vinten (nee: Vinten-Johansen) grew up in Connecticut and Michigan, with degrees in Scandinavian studies, vocal performance, and fine arts. A Fulbright scholar, she studied folk music and poetry in Norway. Marriage sparked her artmaking, leading to a BFA in Art Education and teaching/performing in Austria with her family before their 2019 move to western Michigan. Inspired by a Dutch children commission, I explored archival images, drawn to the strength of a past culture despite it not being my own. The original black and white photos shifted my focus from color to light, dark, line, form, tone, and pattern, blending abstract and real. Using varied media on canvas or wood, each piece was a learning process, sometimes involving sketches. I value this deep dive into another world.
