Extinct Embroidery: Eastern Elk Instructor: Dayna Walton We will cover 4 basic embroidery stitches to complete a design of an Eastern Elk, declared extinct in 1880. We will talk about the history of the animal and what led to its decline. Participants will create a stitched work of art that can be used as a gift, wall hanging, or sewn into something else! This class is fit for both beginners and pros. The class will be split into small groups with periodic demos by instructor Dayna Walton to allow for all to work at their own pace. All supplies included, each participant will receive a printed sampler to stitch, a hoop, thread, needle, and instructional sheet. How to Crochet Instructor: Susan Curry Have you ever wanted to learn how to crochet? Did you know that crochet and knitting are good for your brain? It can reduce stress, gives you the ability to cope with illness (physical or mental) and decreases the risk of cognitive impairment as you age. This introductory class is a perfect class for beginners and anyone wanting to pick up their crochet hook again. Learn how to determine the right fiber to use for the right project, basic stitches and how to read patterns. You'll leave with a set of your own hooks and a finished handmade project you created! Flicks and Stitches: Super Fungi Embroidery Instructor: Dayna Walton During this all-levels embroidery crash course, we'll cover 4 outline and filling stitches and use them to complete a sampler of Michigan mushrooms. Beginners are welcome, and the pros are welcome to work at their own pace. After we've gotten familiar with our stitch techniques, we'll tune into the documentary "Super Fungi" to learn about how mushrooms fit into our ecosystem and how they may be able to solve our problems like pollution. This film is full of gorgeous shots of colorful fungi, time-lapses of their growth, and interviews with Paul Stamets. You'll leave with a finished embroidered wall hanging and a new awareness for fungi, hiding in plain sight all around you. Crochet Edges and Toppers Instructor: Susan Curry Bring the beauty of hand crochet borders into your home with our Crochet Edges and Toppers class. Adding this useful and beautiful class to everyday items makes your home more welcoming, charming, and convenient for your everyday life. This class will provide you with the skill to enhance pieces and is perfect for beginner to intermediate skill level crocheters. During this workshop students will complete two projects with fully provided materials; two skeins of year, kitchen towel, fleece fabric, and specialized crochet hook for edging. Crochet Arugami and Toys Instructor: Susan Curry Cute, cuddly, and fun! Arugami is a great way to express yourself with yarn! This class will show you how to make adorable miniature stuff toys and give you the basics for crochet toy making. Students will be given all the materials they need to create 2-3 arugami toy and an F size crochet hook. This class is perfect for beginner to intermediate skill level crocheters. Basic knowledge of crochet stitches is necessary to make these delightful toys into rounds. Students will be able to choose from a variety of arugami toy patterns designed by instructor, Susan Curry, as you are guided through the toy making process. Light refreshments provided.
