Watercolor Batik Workshop Instructor: Carole Hunnes-Nielsen Watercolor batik is an amazing technique that combines painting with watercolor and melted wax. Batik creates a loose look that cannot be achieved with traditional watercolor methods. This technique will change the way you paint. It is a process of painting in alternating layers of paint and wax. The wax is removed in the final step. We will begin with a simple design to lead you through learning the process and then progress to designing your own painting. We will begin with rice paper. You will be given the opportunity to use a variety of textured and colored papers to experiment with. You will also learn how to prepare your paintings for framing with a traditional mat or floating your painting. Papers will be included. Please bring a bag lunch. Coptic Bound Journal Workshop Instructor: Katie Bosch Participants will learn the step-by-step process of creating their own journals. We will construct covers, prepare signatures, and learn the ancient coptic stitch that originated in Egypt. Material for one 8.5 "x 5.5" 50 page journal will be provided, along with the tools to be used in class. Tools kits and pre-cut, ready to assemble journal packages for take home full will be available for purchase the day of class. Easy Artisan No-Knead Bread Workshop Instructor: Ken Freestone This bread class provides easy to understand instructions and a no knead process based on the Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes recipes. Ken Freestone will show you how to make bread at home with simple tools and ingredients, store your dough for up to two weeks and have dough ready to bake (bread, pizza, Naan, rolls and more) in the time it takes to heat your oven. No experience is necessary and all participants will taste samples, bake bread, make dough and leave with a fresh loaf of bread to take home.

Land, Sky & Water Pastel Workshop Instructor: Tom Tomasek Capture the feeling and beauty of the land, sky and water that surrounds you in a pastel painting. Join award winning artist Tom Tomasek for a two day exploration of pastel technique that can be applied to studio work as well as plein air painting. Utilizing sanded surface pastel paper and odorless mineral spirits, this process begins with the development of a strong under painting and evolves with each application of additional pastel layers. The properties of pastel and different painting foundations will be covered. The special considerations for pastel presentation, such as matting and framing will be demonstrated at the conclusion. Sandy Meyer Watercolor Workshop- Unusual Paintings on Unexpected Surfaces Nationally known artist Sandy Meyer will teach a one day watercolor workshop which will explore different possibilities to be used as a painting surface. She will also share some unexpected tools she uses to create a variety of textures in her own work. Part of the the day will include creating a small painting on a page from an antique book (Sandy will supply this) Bring your usual watercolor supplies: paints, brushes, water container, and a sketchbook and pencil. Bring your Gouache paints and watercolor pencils if you have them and don’t forget a bag lunch! Recommended things to use as subject matter would be photos of animals, birds, butterflies, flowers, trees, uncomplicated landscape scenes, and actual food items or trinkets. Arleta Pech Watercolor Workshop Masterclass Learn Nationally known Arleta's process for creating dazzling and detailed watercolor paintings. You will learn to artfully set up a still life with objects she will bring. You may work from life or photograph the arrangement and draw your own composition. She will have the available option to borrow a transfer of her composition and she will demonstrate step by step. Learn how to use the Harmonic Armature on complicated still lifes, then watch as she demonstrates watercolor techniques on glazing to build values and dark backgrounds that were seen in her book "Painting Fresh Florals in Watercolor" published in 1998 and sold over 35000 copies. Boxed lunches will be available for purchase during the workshop. A supply list will be emailed upon registration.
