PAINTING WATERCOLOR PAINTING I (PAW1) Instructor: Brenda Jiral This class is for the beginning or returning watercolor artist, and involves the basics of getting started and beyond. You will better understand the process of wet-on-wet painting vs. glazing, as well as texture, composition, and color. Get the most out of your paint! Watercolors are luminous, forgiving, flexible, and fun if you know the basics. A supply list will be discussed the first day of class. If you have existing supplies bring them and we will see what you can use. 6 weeks • Wednesdays • May 15-June 19 • 10am-12pm • $105 ($84) • Room 220 • Ages 16 & up REGISTER WATERCOLOR PAINTING II (PAW2) Instructor: Brenda Jiral Take your artwork to the next level and work a little deeper into your paintings. This class is for the next level of watercolor artist, and involves not only honing your painting skills but also defining your painting style. We will review some of the techniques discussed in Watercolor I. Class critiques will generate problem solving ideas. Relax and paint - a great way to start the day! Twenty-five lbs. of clay, glazing and firing included. Anyone can learn to draw; it is not a skill reserved for the talented few—and it’s fun! Learn about negative space, value (shading), and all basic elements. This would be a great starter class or a brush-up for those who have taken classes before. Please bring a sketchbook and a pencil the first day of class. 6 weeks • Mondays • 6-8pm • June 3–July 8 • $90 ($72) • Rm 220 REGISTER JEWELRY FUSED GLASS JEWELRY (JFG) Instructor: Gini Cooper Learn basic techniques for fusing glass jewelry. You’ll make earrings, pins, and pendants using frits, stringers, dichroic glasses, and photo-fusing paper to create rich sepia toned decals. No prior fusing experience is necessary. Use of tools and materials, including fusible glass, are included. Fusing is easy to do, even if you’ve never worked with glass before. 5 weeks • Tuesdays • 5:30-7:30pm • June 25 – July 30 • $70 ($56) • Rm 217B REGISTER PHOTOGRAPHY A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO DIGITAL Instructor: Jeff Raterink Photographer Jeff Raterink helps you understand the ins and outs of your digital camera to allow you to take beautiful photos. Jeff will help you discover all the wonderful tools as you learn about composition and artistry. Very much a dance of the street, it is incredibly versatile. We immerse the kids in Art! Will your child be the next Rauschenberg or O’Keeffe? This camp teaches kids how to cook. We cover the basics including how to set a table and food presentation. We will dazzle the senses. We spend the week forming animals, pots and all kids of masterpieces that will last a lifetime (if you don’t drop them!) Nothing like getting creative in the mud! Wheel instruction is included. This year we will be celebrating marionettes & puppets. Hope camps are unique because kids get a chance to touch on all the fine art bases dance, performance, music and visual arts. You’ll learn what makes a picture great! You will photograph unusual items you find at the Arts Council and work on portraits of each other. Each class session will focus on new creatures and new techniques as the class ventures through uncharted territory. Pencils, colored pencils, crayons, brushes, and watercolors will be used. 5 weeks • Wednesdays • 10:30am-12:30pm • May 29 – June 26 • $55 ($44) • Rm 220 REGISTER MORE PROGRAMS ART FOR ALL - DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED ART CLASS (AFA) Every Monday night from 6-7:30 PM, the Arts Council holds an art class for developmentally disabled adults. This guided art-making and dance time is a valuable resource for the community. Local artist & teacher May Van Ark founded Art for All twenty years ago and we continue the tradition today. The sessions are currently led by Holland Public Special Education Instructor Tamison Troff and her assistants including dance interns from Hope College. The cost is a very affordable $30.00 a month to cover supplies though scholarships are available. Community donations to support this program are welcomed. Classes that do not meet minimum enrollment by the first session may be cancelled. If a class is cancelled, students may transfer to another class or request a full refund.
Foul Weather Cancellation: Generally, the Arts Council cancels classes when the Holland Public Schools cancel.
